Gardening Round-up: Is your garden summer ready?

Posted on Jul 11, 2017

Photo credit: Pinkyone, Shutterstock We have had a fair bit of warm weather over the past month, I can tell because the garden has gone crazy! The grass is needing mowing much more frequently, and the weeds grow before my very eyes, our tomato and chilli plants are growing nicely, although the beans and peas are struggling with the slugs and snails. In this weather I struggle to know exactly how much water to give the garden and the plants, not wanting to drown them, but also not leaving them too thirsty, so if you are like me, then check out Growing Family?s post on effective summer garden watering. With the summer holidays nearly upon us, you may think that you won?t have enough time to keep up with the garden, so check out these 7 quick gardening jobs, that will take less than 10 minutes, so we can all find that amount of time to keep the garden looking it?s best, even better, involve the children, check out Inspire, Create Educate?s post on Easy gardening activities for children. If you are looking for inspiration for your garden, then check out Renovation Bay-Bee for a garden transformation, you may find further ideas, from the blog hop, or Frugal Family?s garden makeover ideas If, like me , you have a problem with garden pests and things that destroy your plants (other than chickens, which are not great for keeping flowers healthy!!) then this post on tips for controlling plant disease may help you out. As we head into July, you might want to check out this post from Growing Family, that tells you all of the things you should have completed in June, so if there is anything on the list, that you haven?t done, now?s the time to do it. If you only have a small garden, do not worry as Emma Reed tells you how to make the most of your small garden. Before the school holidays begin, we are looking to purchase some new garden furniture as we have had ours so long, its falling apart, so this post on Garden Furniture from A Few Favourite things may come in handy. Last month a mummy robin had decided to nest in Asa?s shed, so it was off limits for a couple of weeks, I am happy to report the new baby robins have now left the nest meaning we can use the tools that are stored in the shed once again! This week, as we were cutting back the very overgrown bushes, we noticed that a pigeon had nested on the very end, right next to the patio steps, so every time we go up the steps we are stared at by some very fluffy (but very large) baby pigeons, if you have birds nesting in your garden, then, like me, you will probably feel compelled to provide...

Your ESSENTIAL Guide to the Best Sun Protection products

Posted on Jul 10, 2017

WORDS BY AMANDA LEWIS The Summer is finally here its official ! It might only last for a few days, it could be here for a few weeks, who knows it could be a couple of months that we are basking in this seasonal halo. Now I don?t mean to bring your mood down, but there is a very serious side to this fantastic weather. We men and I do mean to generalise here are pretty damn awful when it comes to safe tanning, laying in the sun and most importantly putting on suncream and when we do, that it?s a high enough SPF (Sun Protection Factor). OK then, now because we at Clothes-Make-the-Man care about our loyal readers and we want you around for as long as possible we have compiled our top 5 tips for sun safety;1) Make sure you use enough product ? you should apply a blob about the size of a two pound coin for each limb and your front and back, as well as a blob about the size of a pound coin for your face,2) Protect your skin before you first go into the sun ? we recommend applying sun cream 15 minutes before going into the sun, then reapplying again as soon as you go out in the sun. After that, you should reapply every 1 to 2 hours, as well as immediately after swimming or towelling.3) Check for 5 star UVA rating ? ensure your chosen sun care product has maximum 5 star UVA protection as well as a high SPF, as this will provide the best protection from skin ageing as well as burning.4) Use an SPF of at least 15 ? you should be using a high SPF (30 or 50) if you?re going abroad or have fair skin. Also don?t forget?your lips, they are prone to drying and cracking and long term exposure can cause uneven colouration as well as more serious skin conditions.5) Choose a well-known brand that you trust ? when buying sun care make sure you look for a brand that are investing in research into the latest suncare technologies as well as in educating people about sun safety. With these top tips in mind, very much the last point, we have thoroughly researched the market to determine what are the best sun care products on the market. Since the 1970s, Bioderma has acquired a unique expertise in skincare and is recommended by Dermatologists worldwide. Bioderma?s sun care range is for everyone. With very high protection (SPF 50+, which blocks 98% of UVB rays), the Photoderm Max collection contains several options for face and body, as well as a Spray and Mousse for children that is adapted to their delicate skin. A sore Red nose isn?t the only feature that can be affected by the sun on your face. From dehydration lines to dull-looking skin, your face needs the upmost care to boast that healthy sun kissed, holiday glow. Hawaiian Tropic with their Silk Hydration Air Soft Face SPF30 have...

10 WWE Wrestlers Who Came From Other Sports

Posted on Jul 10, 2017

wikipedia WWE has a long history of signing athletes from other sports. Cynics say that it’s often driven by a lust for some coverage in the national press, but it also makes sense as a way to recruit talent. Sportsmen and women, apart from being in great physical nick, have a natural appreciation of the pressures of live performance and the sacrifices associated with a life on the road. The notion of professional wrestling as a safety net for failed football stars doesn’t sit well with everyone, though. There’s something less romantic about the story of a twenty-something deciding to give WWE a try for the hell of it than there is the one about a childhood fan who spent their summer holidays doing trampoline suplexes eventually making it big. But in reality, only a selection of us are blessed with the requisite physical attributes (and the dedication that goes with it) to reach the very top. Whether we like it or not, athletes-turned-wrestlers are here to stay, and there is plenty of proof that they can thrive in their second careers. 10 WTF Animal Horror Movies You Won’t Believe Exist

Posted on Jul 9, 2017

There are some genuinely scary animal horror movies out there and the one thing that unites them all is a believable villain. Sharks are an obvious choice (thanks, Jaws), as are crocodiles ? both beasts that have been known to be partial to a bit of human flesh every now and then. Spiders and snakes, who might not be able to devour you whole but can exterminate you with a swift venomous bite, work too. But some horrors feature animal antagonists so ludicrous they beggar belief. Maybe in trying to bring something other than yet another shark attack movie to genre, the makers of these films had to dredge the very depths of their creativity (and the food chain) to come up with something fresh and new. Unfortunately, this resulted in a wave of films with the most unlikely animal threats cinema has ever seen with species that would be hard-pushed to even slightly mentally traumatise a human, let alone kill them. Just a word of advice before we proceed for any budding animal horror directors out there: if your beastly villain inspires ?awwwws? instead of ?arrrrrghs? it might be better just to make another shark movie. go to here in the...
