Jessica Chastain begins work on The Zookeeper?s Wife

Posted on Oct 20, 2015

Production has begun in the Czech Republic on The Zookeeper?s Wife, adapted from Diane Ackerman?s nonfiction book of the same name which was based on the diaries of Antonina ?abi?ski. Focus Features will release the film domestically; Universal Pictures International has distribution rights to the film in the U.K., France, Germany, Scandinavia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. Two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain stars in the title role, as Antonina ?abi?ski. The Zookeeper?s Wife director Niki Caro?s previous films include Whale Rider and North Country. The Zookeeper?s Wife dramatizes a real-life story of heroism. The time is 1939. The place is Poland, homeland of Antonina ?abi?ski (portrayed by Ms. Chastain) and her husband, Dr. Jan ?abi?ski (Johan Heldenbergh, a European Film Award nominee for the Academy Award-nominated The Broken Circle Breakdown). The Warsaw Zoo flourishes under Jan?s stewardship and Antonina?s care. When their country is invaded by the Nazis, Jan and Antonina are forced to report to the Reich?s newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck (Golden Globe Award nominee Daniel Brühl of the upcoming Captain America: Civil War). The ?abi?skis covertly begin working with the Resistance ? and put into action plans to save the lives of hundreds from what has become the Warsaw Ghetto, with Antonina putting herself and her children at great risk. The cast of The Zookeeper?s Wife also includes Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones); Iddo Goldberg (Defiance, The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler); Goran Kostic (In the Land of Blood and Honey); and Israeli actresses Shira Haas, who stars in Natalie Portman?s feature directorial debut A Tale of Love and Darkness, and Efrat Dor, acclaimed for her work in the television series Achat Efes Efes, Asfur, and Mermaids. The screenplay adaptation is by Angela Workman (War Bride). The movie is being produced by Jeff Abberley, through his Scion Films; Kim Zubick and Diane Levin, who initiated the project; and Electric City Entertainment?s Jamie Patricof. Academy Award nominee Suzie Davies (Mr. Turner) is the production designer on The Zookeeper?s Wife; Andrij Parekh (Show Me a Hero) is the director of photography; and Bina Daigeler (Only Lovers Left Alive) is the film?s costume designer. Good Reads: Taylor Swift, naughty children and fear

Posted on Oct 19, 2015

I love the beginning of October ? the leaves start to turn, crunching under foot, decorating lawns and driveways like confetti. Then, incrementally, I realise that I am getting up in the dark, I turn on the heating and the full weight of winter stares down at me, taunting. October is a month of transition from gilets to coats, from pumps to boots. But there is still good: half-term, Halloween, autumn sunshine, Strictly Come Dancing. And of course there are the blog posts: the photographs, the recipes, the crafts, the observations, the decor ideas. So many wonderful reasons to read blogs. And the group of posts I have collected, curated even, below, are no exception.  First up, Make A Long Story Short writes Dear Boy, You Can Be Unpretty Here The Pool explains why we needn?t fear our failures. There is a trend for embracing them in fact.  Must Be The Mummy is certain that Taylor Swift Could Save Us All The Adultier Adult lists Things I Never Knew Until I Was A Parent Canvas Pretty shares 20 Ways To Be A Better Blogger The Thinking Parent has Questions That Will Get Your Child Talking About School Cogito Ergo Mum urges us to raise naughty children Joanne Mallon asks if you can ever be 100% fearless. Diana writes about what lies ahead after the years of heartache. Are You Kiddingney shares her recent experience in Letting Go during Baby Loss Awareness Week. This carries a Trigger Warning, and indeed Tissue Warning, but do share your love and support. Thank you Innocent Charms for sharing. All good posts for different reasons, posts that make you laugh, cry, think or act. The perfect half-term reading really.  Come back in November for more great good reads that I have found out and about on the internet. DTM, Eurocup and Japanese F3 titles won | Weekend racing wrap

Posted on Oct 19, 2015

Mercedes executive director Toto Wolff was present at the Hockenheimring to see the team?s junior driver Pascal Wehrlein become the youngest ever DTM champion. Elsewhere Jack Aitken and Nick Cassidy clinched junior series championship titles. DTM Races 17 and 18: Hockenheimring, Germany [embedded content] x [embedded content] x Eighth place in the first of the weekend?s two races was enough for Mercedes F1 test driver Pascal Wehrlein to clinch the title, becoming the youngest ever DTM champion. Wehrlein?s closest rivals ? Audi duo Mattias Ekstrom and Edoardo Mortara ? finished off the podium which was headed by their team mates Timo Schneider and Jamie Green followed by BMW?s pole sitter Maxime Martin. The newly-crowned champion endured a miserable final race in the season finale, limping home in twentieth place. A fourth win of the year for Green ? who had been winless since claiming victory in three of the opening four events ? moved him up to second in the final standings ahead of Ekstrom and Mortara, who joined him on the podium Formula Renault 3.5 Races 16 and 17: Jerez, Spain [embedded content] x [embedded content] x Oliver Rowland looked set to achieve his goal of adding a double race victory at Jerez to the championship he secured at Le Mans. He won Saturday?s rain-affected race after passing Tom Dillmann when the pole sitter suffered a puncture, which Dillmann blamed on contact from his rival. Pole position on Sunday put him on course for his first double win of the season, but a mistake on the slippery track at the end of lap one opened the door for Nyck de Vries to end the season with his maiden triumph. Rowland nonetheless now holds the records for most Formula Renault 3.5 wins of all time ? ten ? and most in a season ? eight, beating the record set by Carlos Sainz Jnr last year. The championship will no longer be administered by Renault next year, with Jaime Alguersuari?s RPM Racing taking control of the series he originally founded in 1999. European Formula Three Races 31, 32 and 33: Hockenheimring, Germany [embedded content] x [embedded content] x Felix Rosenqvist already had the title in the bag but that didn?t stop him taking yet another race win, as he won the last race of the season at the Hockenheimring in a race that summed up perfectly the events of the season, blighted by no fewer than four Safety Car periods. Antonio Giovinazzi secured second place in the standings with a win in the second race. Charles Leclerc, who shone in the series? first visit to Hockenheim five months ago, completed a 16-race run without a podium finish yet held on to the top rookie honours earned by his Van Amersfoort Racing predecessor Max Verstappen 12 months ago. Ferrari junior Lance Stroll ended his turbulent year on a high with his...

This ain?t no cover version ? Tudor?s Heritage Black Bay ?Black?

Posted on Oct 19, 2015

Tudor Watches, a stable mate company of Rolex, left the UK market, some twelve years ago. Well they?re back. The brainchild of renowned watchmaker, Hans Wilsdorf. He first founded, Rolex,  then TUDOR, often referred to as the little sibling of Rolex. It blending the same unparalleled quality and dependability of a Rolex, with less of the ?gulp, I?m too frightened to check my bank balance after buying? price point. The Black Black Bay is the brand?s biggest release yet and a new version of the brand?s iconic Divers? watch first introduced in 2012. Not to be mistaken for a re-edition, the new style utilises the aesthetic codes that contributed to the renown of the original submariner model of 1954, injected with modern touches to update its iconic status. It features multiple references to the brand?s heritage combined with contemporary design elements ? vividly embodying Tudor?s renewal process. Whilst the piece features the iconic red triangle of the unidirectional bezel used in the original model, the new style comes on either a brushed steel bracelet with clasp, leather or fabric straps. If in fact Mr Bond was looking for an alternative to his Seamaster he could do an awful lot worse than this lovely creation. Related this article detailed...
