How to make breakfast fun again #sponsored

Posted on Mar 23, 2016

Disney recently launched its DisneyHealthyLiving.co.uk website, supporting families making healthy choices. BritMums has been promoting its #HealthilyEverAfter campaign, along with key bloggers, as part of a sponsored project. Here, we share their stories, tips and advice (all opinions are those of the participating bloggers). Yoghurt frozen into snowflake shapes, just like in Elsa?s breakfast. Image courtesy of Crafts on Sea It?s supposed to be the most important meal of the day but how many of us can honestly say that our children start their morning with a nutritionally-balanced and filling breakfast or even go to school on an egg? A combination of the rush to get them dressed, find ? and sometimes do ? homework, get to school or nursery as well as shower and sort ourselves out for the day means that a bowl of something sugary followed by something sugary on toast is a trap that most of us fall into on occasions. We can do better and Disney, in partnership with BritMums, has challenged some of our most popular bloggers to see if they could use some of the Disney characters to inspire our children to eat bigger and better breakfasts. So how did they get on with the #Healthilyeverafter campaign? Sully becomes a motivating breakfast companion with North East Family Fun Kate from Crafts on Sea has come up with the ingenious idea of freezing yogurt using a snowflake mould and convincing her daughter that this is exactly what Elsa from Frozen would have on her healthy breakfast blueberries. The snowflakes are simple to make ? Kate will fill up a few moulds while waiting for the kettle to boil ? and soooo pretty. In the North East Family Fun household, the emphasis is more on using a character to keep an eye on your children?s diet. On her blog, Samantha used her daughter?s favourite Monsters Inc toy, Sulley, to watch over her at breakfast. ?Everyone wants to grow up to be big and strong like Sulley,? she explains. ?The kids loved this simple idea and breakfast time was suddenly fun again. They cleaned their bowls without any fuss.? Finally, there is the distraction technique favoured by Brummy Mummy of Two, Emma: ?When we have the time, we love to put on The Descendants soundtrack and dance around,? she explains in her post. ?The kids don?t notice they are shoving handfuls of fruit down their mouths and also don?t notice my dreadful moves.? Family Days Out Round-Up: Spring is here!

Posted on Mar 22, 2016

Photo credit: asife, Shutterstock I don?t want to jinx it but it certainly seems more spring-like in the last few weeks and we have ditched our heavy winter coats and replaced them with something lighter and it seems many of you have too. With spring arriving it seems many of the theme parks have re-opened and with that a stream of blog posts about fun days out. We were lucky enough to be invited to Drayton Manor, home of Thomas Land along with a host of other bloggers including Mrs Shilts, AngelEdenBlog, Keep Up with the Jones Family and many more. Follow the hashtag #DMP if you want to find what other bloggers thought of the day. Staying on the theme park theme, Legoland also seemed a popular choice with visits from Missing Sleep, Tantrums to Smiles, Little Hearts, Big Love and Renovation Bay-Bee, whilst we headed to Thorpe Park to get our adrenalin levels pumping for their preview day and Jacintaz3 visited Shreks Adventure. I always think spring is the best time to visit Wildlife Parks, Farms and Zoos as seeing the newborn animals is a real treat. Tantrums to Smiles did just that with a visit to Paignton Zoo in Devon and Mummy Here and There headed to Dudley Zoo. Farm trips are always great fun with kids and South West Travels visited St James? City Farm in Gloucester, Bubba Blue and Me visited Green Dragon Eco Farm, Mum Life had a Sunday morning visit to Nutfield Priory Farm, Mummy Endeavours headed to Willow Farm, Ickle Pickles Life went to Folly Farm and we headed to Farmer Palmers in Dorset where we got to feed the newborn lambs. For those after a bit of culture The Mummy Diary had a fun day out at the Midland Railway with steams trains large and small, Craft Invaders got all mystical at Stonehenge, the Joy of Five became trainee knights at Leeds Castle and JuggleMum had a day out at the Davis Cup where they got to watch Andy and Jamie Murray play tennis. Nothing beats a trip to the beach and it looks as though it was a really popular activity in the last few weeks with Hollybobbs heading to Blackpool to the Sealife Centre and a very bracing walk along the beach, Dear Mummy visiting Port Stewart Beach on her recent trip to Northern Ireland, Renovation Bay-Bee headed to my neck of the woods and climbed down to Durdle Door and Coombe Mill headed into Brighton for some fun at the seaside with the family. I mention in every round-up that we love visits to National Trust properties as there is always so much to do. This month Mummy from the Heart visited Sheffield Park Garden with her family, Mummy Travels visited Polesdon Lacy, Hodge Podge Days did a beautiful snowdrop walk at Rode Hall and Teddy Bears and Cardigans visited Dyffryn Gardens. Following on from the outdoor theme, Really Missing Sleep visited Hatton Country World, Mudpie...
